Crowdsourcing a new soccer regime at Manchester United

Manchester United Supporters Trust Hoping One Million Fans Will Join Their Anti-Glazer Campaign

Manchester United fans believe they can get a million people to join their protest against the club's the Glazer family, the club's unpopular American owners.

The Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) have had success to date with their protest, with many fans attending games at Old Trafford in yellow and green, the colours of United's forerunner, Newton Heath. The Trust now wants to take that further.

“It started off as a peaceful, visual protest and it struck a chord. It is more than a protest now, it is a movement," Sean Bones, vice-chairman of MUST, told Reuters.

“We wanted to grow the membership up to 100,000 by the end of the season, but it doubled from 53,000 to 106,000 in two days. The most important thing is for the campaign to continue to grow and we believe one million is a realistic target.”

The Glazers' ownership of United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, has lumbered the club with debts of around £716.5 million. But MUST hopes that the rumoured takeover by the Red Knights, a group of City businessmen reportedly ready to offer around £1.5 bn for the club, will come to fruition.
